Rape of an indigenous girl in Tripura
On 26 May 2003, a group of three Special Police Officers' jawans Sudhir Mullick, Sudip Saha and Surjya Das raped a tribal girl (name withheld) near Manoranjan Das para camp at remote Gandacherra subdivision under Dalai district, Tripura. Incensed by the girl's resistance the three culprits pushed a cane up her sex organ. Deportation of Myanmarese refugees from Mizoram, India
On 17 July 2003, a local Mizo girl was raped by a Mizo immigrant from Myanmar in a hotel run by his father in Aizwal. Angered by the "ghastly crime", the state's largest NGO, the Young Mizo Association, has vowed to "clean up" the capital of "foreigners". Thousands of the Myanmarese refugees were deported. Torture of Myanmarese refugees in front of UNHCR Office in New Delhi
On the night of 12 November 2003, 80 Burmese refugees were tortured by the Delhi Police reportedly after UNHCR requested Ministry of Foreign Affairs to remove the demonstrators. ACHR came to know through the press that the Ministry of External Affairs and the Delhi Police submitted their replies. Until today, the complainant, Asian Centre for Human Rights, has not been forwarded the replies of the MEA and the Delhi Police by the NHRC. Read the NHRC's Press Release >>>
