India’s Draft Universal Periodic Report-II: A Case of Forced Marriage?

This submission is being made by Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) pursuant to the call made by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for comments from the civil society organizations on its “Draft Universal Periodic Report-II” (available at http://www.mea.gov.in/mystart.php?id=5212). The comments are to be submitted by either fax to 011-23011922 or emailed at dsune@mea.gov.in by 20th January 2012.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a process of the UN Human Rights Council which involves a review of the human rights records of all 192 UN Member States once every four years. The reviews are conducted by the UPR Working Group consisting of the 47 members of the Council. India is a member of the UNHRC and will be examined in May 2012.
